The first of our top island vacations takes us to Sri Lanka

Taprobane Island. Imagine your own two acre island sitting off the south west coast of Sri Lanka, close to Galle, and close enough to the shore to be able to enjoy all that exploring Sri Lanka has to offer. It is essentially a villa with five bedrooms, all ensuite each with its own private outside area, perfect for a group of friends, a large family or honeymooners. From Sri Lanka to Antigua in the Caribbean for the second of our top island vacations

Jumby Bay is situated on a private island off the coast of Antigua and for years has been associated with al that is best in vacations. It is home to a collection of luxury homes, estates and villas as well as the resort. The homes and villas can be booked when available as well as the resort, and the accommodation is absolutely spectacular. The island is beautiful and the sea views very special indeed. It is absolutely all inclusive so you literally have to raise a hand and your glass will be filled. To be fair there isn't a whole lot to do, although there are walking trails and of course there is the caribbean Sea with its lovely beaches. The quality of the food is something Jumby is legendary for, and you will not be disappointed. Our next top island vacations is the Azores.  

The Azores as a vacation destination may never have crossed your mind, but it is an as yet unspoilt group of nine islands in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean west of Lisbon. If you love spectacular landscapes, wide open empty spaces, wonderful flowering shrubs, small peaceful villages, lovely coves, and unspoilt beaches then you will love the Azores. The islands are volcanic, so you can go volcano walking, and there are hot springs. You can even go whale watching which is worth visiting the Azores for by itself. Because of its key position in the North Atlantic there is an incredible history with unique local customs to enjoy. Best of all very few tourists so it remains much as it has always been.  From the Azores to the Bahamas for the next of our top island vacations

Stocking Island and the St Francis Resort. A Bahamas Island Resort which has only 8 rooms and it overlooks miles of stunning white sand beach on Stocking Island,which is totally unspoilt and  which lies about a mile away from George Town on Great Exuma. You get there by small ferry and you will find a five mile long island and only seven inhabitants, so you will never be crowded out. From the Bahamas we travel east to the Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea for the fifth of our top island vacations

Santorini and the Astra Suites Hotel . The island is without a doubt the most dramatic in the Aegean Sea. It is still an active volcano and its shape is a result of volcanic eruptions throughout history leaving dramatic cliffs, and unbelievably beautiful views from the whitewashed villages on top of the cliffs. Our selected accommodation is the highly rated Astra Suites Hotel which has views out over the caldera to die for, very nice rooms, and stunningly good service. the pool area is great, the bar service very good and the views are just so spectacular especially the sunsets. Santorini has the reputation of being the most romantic of all the Greek islands and a visit will confirm that. You should book a Junior Suite towards the top of the resort which is also perfect because you are not directly next to the pool area or other hotel guests. There is a patio right off of the front entrance and  here your breakfast is served every day with a large choice. There is a restaurant, however there is amazing service and you can order anything from the menu from your room and it arrives within 20 minutes. For our last but not least of our top island vacations we travel to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal

Barefoot at Havelock. The Andaman islands are India’s secret paradise, with beautiful white sand beaches, untouched coral reefs, and very few tourists. Hidden away beside possibly the best beach in Asia is Barefoot at Havelock Island, only accessible by boat. Indeed the journey here is long, and access is quite difficult but so well worth it. Barefoot is a real beach escape but out of the ordinary in that it is a bit of an adventure. It would make a fantastic honeymoon destination for a couple who love out of the way places. Now Havelock is rustic, but idyllic with cottages reminiscent of Robinson Crusoe and is set in seven acres with the jungle behind and the turquoise sea and white sand beach in front. You should understand this isn’t a Maldivian style resort with the luxury and service that implies, this is very eco orientated and down to earth. Book the newer Andaman Villas, or the stunning Nicobari Villa which is a truly rustic-chic hideaway for 2 and also stick to the Indian style food which is superb. The diving here is as good as it gets, and a quirk is the resident elephant which goes swimming. There is not a lot to do buthere are nature walks and various Ayurvedic treatments, but this is the ultimate escape to one of the most beautiful places on earth.
