Everyone has their own opinion about what makes great vacation resorts. Well here is our opinion about some of the great vacation resorts anywhere.

Our first visit is to the lovely island of Anguilla which has one of the loveliest great vacation resorts in the Caribbean

The Frangipani Beach Resort is the perfect vacation resort. Built in the Spanish and Mediterranean style with only 19 accommodation units, it sits on the beautiful powder white beach at Mead's Bay. There is everything from beautifully furnished and decorated guest rooms up to huge suites, and you will find all the suites have a fully equipped kitchen. Everything from breakfast to dinner is provided by the highly renowned Straw Hat restaurant. They also provide all the services you will need, even delivering groceries should you want. There are two freshwater pools, but it is the beach and the clear turquoise sea that is the draw, with a huge range of complimentary water sports, as well as massages in a cabana. You can play golf, go horseriding or just chill out, and there is something here for all the family be it a honeymoon or a family vacation. The Elounda Peninsula All Suite Hotel is certainly rated the best resort hotel on Crete if not in the entire Mediterranean. This is the kind of resort you never need to leave during your entire vacation. It is one of the great hotels if you have children because there is an excellent Kid's Club, and they have lots of activities for them to join. For parents this is a hotel that has nearly everything for a perfect vacation. The villas are more than comfortable, private pools are like the villas private and not overlooked. There is a great selection of restaurants, the spa is amazing, and the private beach very good indeed. The staff are helpful, friendly and great with the children, always treating you like old friends. Belize is the next of our great vacation resorts destinations

The Coco Beach Resort is a beachfront resort on the island of Ambergris Caye just over three miles to the north of San Pedro Town. The resort has an amazing pool, luxurious accommodation and lots of mainly sea based activities in a lovely warm climate. It is surrounded by palm trees coconuts, and comfortable hammocks to laze your time away. There are 25 two bedroom suites and 5 one bedroom casitas. Each suite features two bedrooms with king sized beds and two baths, and extremely well equipped kitchens, and a separate dining area. What you will find here are very friendly personable staff both in the bar, and around the resort, which makes a huge difference. You can get a water taxi to San Pedro regularly and there are a number of very good restaurants close by, where you can even get room service. Some of the great vacation resorts of the world are in Mauritius

The Oberoi Mauritius overlooks Turtle Bay and its own private beach on the north west coast of Mauritius, and sits in almost twenty acres of lovely tropical gardens There are 72 rooms varying from palm thatched Luxury Pavilions to Royal Villas. All with four poster beds, marble bathrooms, and sunken bath. The pavilions have a large terrace, and the Villas sit in their own tropical gardens with large private swimming pools. The Oberoi would be perfect for a honeymoon from the romantic villas, to the two gourmet restaurants and an outstanding spa. For the next of our great vacation resorts we visit the Algarve in Portugal

The Riu Palace Albufeira on the Algarve with just under 350 rooms is close to Albufeira in the fishing village of Olhos d'Agua, and is a top resort for both couples and families. There is a great choice of things to do and to see in the way of little coves, great beaches to swim off, cobbled streets in lovely little villages, and loads of restaurants and shops close by.  The rooms all overlook the lovely gardens and the pool, so if you want relaxation either by the pool or on the beach you have come to the right place. The normal meal arrangement is half board with the restaurant food being of exceptional quality, and it is nice to always have the same table for dinner, to have to dress up, and to be greeted by the head waiter on arrival. You will have to navigate quite steep steps to and from the beach, and an uphill walk from the village because of the clifftop position of the hotel. The hotel gets very good reviews from guests with very few complaints, and with the closeness of the beach is ideal for families with small children. The Four Seasons Resort Sharm El Sheikh looks like a Moroccan kasbah and sits above the Red Sea for all the world looking like a hillside village, it fits the rugged and dramatic terrain of the Sinai Peninsula so well. What you have here are miles of stunning beaches and a superb coral reff, well served by this stunning resort which has 136  guest rooms including 27 suites all very roomy, well laid out,and immaculately furnished with rich fabrics and opulent colours, many with superb views of the Red Sea from their private terraces and balconies. There is a large choice of bars and restaurants with an equally large selection of different cuisines. This is a great hotel for families with a kids club, a teens centre, and a dedicated swimming pool with lots of activities for both young and old.
