Mozambique holidays may not be the first thing you think of when you are looking for a beach front property, but you could do a whole lot worse than to check out the Mozambique channel, and Benguerra Island home to the luxury lodge called Benguerra Lodge. This is a beach front property with style, more a boutique hotel really, but in the wilderness of an offshore island on the edge of the Indian Ocean.

 

Benguerra Lodge is small, very intimate with four different kinds of accommodation from the Bungalows, through the Cabanas, to the Casitas to the Villa.

There are two Bungalows in the trees, less than 15 metres from the beach with a seaview. They have no windows or doors to maximise the sea breezes. They have blinds which can be drawn, overhead fans, mosquito nets, and en suite bathrooms with a shower.

 

The Cabanas are right on the beach, with King sized bed, bathroom with bath, and private deck with Jacuzzi/plunge pool, hammocks and sun lounger, mini bar, and tea and coffee facilities. The Cabanas are especially romantic and elegant.

Mozambique holidays at Azura on Benguerra Island will shortly become a well known destination and Hotel, although Azura is really more a luxury eco boutique lodge than an hotel. It opened its doors in the latter part of 2007, and to some extent it is still work in progress, but it has immediately caught the attention of people looking for a romantic beach getaway or a beach front vacation on a Mozambique Island in the Indian Ocean.

 

Azura is a brand new addition to what are an increasing number of lodges and hotels in the fantastically beautiful Bazaruto Archipelago in Southern Mozambique.

It consists of 3 luxury Villas, 11 infinity villas and a Presidential Villa with private plunge or infinity pool.

They are extremely spacious and designed with a combination of traditional Mozambique furniture and ultra modern chic, and the effect is spectacular. Speechless is one word already used to describe the accommodation, each with its own butler who is there purely to pander to your every whim.

Elegant small beach hotels are a rarity in Mozambique, but the Matemo Island Resort which is stuated off the Northern Mozambique coast is set to become one of the most popular African island vacations.

 

Getting there isn’t difficult, you fly into Pemba, and then take a light aircraft to Matemo.

You really do feel you are off the beaten track here, especially as this is a new resort, with absolutely pristine beaches, and a place to really do nothing but recover from a safari.

In terms of what it’s like, there are 24 rooms, on an island that is 8km long, and 3km wide, and whilst it doesn’t have the sophistication of the Maldives[yet], it does have the huge advantage that you can stay for a week, and not walk round it easily!!

Matemo is one of the great romantic affordable honeymoon ideas, it’s unspoilt, unexplored, a paradise with miles of beautiful white sand beaches.

 

Almost by accident I found one of my dream fishing vacation packages at Vamizi Island Lodge, on Maluane Island in the Quirimba Archipeligo Mozambique. I also found out this is an Eco Lodge adventure vacation, but it is my idea of  a romantic affordable honeymoon idea, as many of the other guests were honeymooners.

 

One or two of them just love the idea of remote island vacations, and in fact this is almost one of the ideal honeymoon destinations for warm weather during the winter.

 

So how did I come to get there in the first place?.......
