 Situated on Ambergris Caye in Belize, this is a really well kept secret, perhaps the last and best in the Caribbean. What makes it so special is partly the fact that it sits right next to possibly Belize's best beach, partly being a stone's throw away from the most abundant coral reef in the world, and partly the backdrop of lush green foliage and brightly coloured flowers. That by itself doesn't make for one of the best vacation spots, nor does the spectacular and elegant accommodation which consists of 12 beachfront casitas and two 2 bedroom villas. You have to add the superb Mambo Restaurant, the quality of the staff and the wonderful Spa. From Belize we are going almost halfway round the world to the edge of Europe, almost where Europe meets Asia to the second of our Best Vacation Spots which is the Ada Hotel Bodrum

The Ada Hotel Bodrum

In a stunning location this absolute gem of a hotel, hidden from sight by high walls, nevertheless overlooks Turkubuku Bay in Bodrum Turkey. It is backed by the mountains, and the views of the sea, the village and the mountains are more than stunning. The Ada Hotel is small with only 14 rooms and 2 suites, it has a small rooftop pool, its own Hamman[Turkish Bath], and even its own cinema. The hotel owns two Gulets to explore the coast, and a private pier and beach.
You will be met at the airport, always a nice touch, and an introduction to the high level and care you will receive from the staff. It is a very high quality boutique hotel, quite magnificently furnished, with excellent food.
It undoubtedly qualifies as one of our best vacation spots, but perhaps for the more mature couple with a real interest in the archaelogical remains that can be found here, and who enjoy exploring as opposed to lying relaxing, although you will find it difficult to tear yourself away

From Turkey in Europe we travel to Mozambique sitting on the east coast of Africa right on the Indian Ocean where you will find the third of our best vacation spots.

 Matemo Island Resort

You won't find too many elegant beach hotels, especially small ones in Mozambique, but the Matemo Island Resort is all of that and more. It is to be found off the northern Mozambique coast on the Quirimbus Archipelago.
Here you are totally away from it all in a new resort in a totally unspoilt environment, where the beaches seem totally untouched by any humans at all. Matemo is a small resort of twenty four rooms on an island measuring roughly 24 sq Kms. You could compare it to the Maldives twenty five years ago, except the island is a bit too big to walk around.
What you will be most aware of here are the colours. White sand beaches, turquoise sea, and then piles of brightly coloured cushions on Zanzibari day beds seemingly everywhere.
Matemo is just a fantastic idea for a relaxing second week on your honeymoon after a strenuous safari. It is totally unspoilt, it is unexplored, and just a paradise and if you love seafood you will love it here. One word of warning, go soon because it could become popular and that might spoil it.

For the fourth of our best vacation spots we don't travel so far this time from Mozambique, only to Madagascar, to a place you are unlikely to be familiar with. So if you don't mind a bit of name dropping to your friends who won't have heard of this place check out the:

The Princesse Bora Lodge
Whale watching and luxury beach relaxation are an unlikely pairing but that is on offer at the Princesse Bora Lodge near the east coast of Madagascar on Ile Saint Marie. Come here if you love being pampered, and you get a kick out of being surprised by quality in a place that most travel agents won't feature. Also and very importantly if you want to really get close enough to whales to touch them, then come to the Princesse Bora Lodge between June and September when hundreds of humpback whales come here to breed. You will need to book early at this hotel where the accommodation is lovely, the ambience is terrific, and the food mainly seafood is top notch, and then there are the whales!!! Go if you love whales, but go anyway.

 From the Indian Ocean back to the mountains of Scotland for the fifth of our best vacation spots

Inverlochy Castle in Scotland

To stay in a genuine Scottish Castle is just something else, and Inverlochy Castle is one of the best luxury hotels in Scotland and eminently suitable for that little romantic break for two. If you want to impress and can afford it then book the King's Suite, which is massive, and with all modern conveniences including a walk in shower. The castle itself is beautifully restored, standing overlooking the loch, and you will find all the best top class touches such as arriving and luggage whisked away, car parked and chocolates and champagne in your suite, things couldn't get better, but they do!! You will be pampered throughout your stay, and yet the staff are really unobtrusive. Inverlochy Castle would make a terrific honeymoon destination for a couple who enjoy open air pursuits like hill walking, and fishing. It really is one of the best vacation spots not only in Scotland but certainly the UK.

 The sixth of our best vacation spots is right on the southern tip of Africa close to the centre of Capetown and yet a world apart

Les Cascades at Bantry Bay Capetown

You will find it in a very exclusive area of Bantry Bay on the Cape Town Atlantic Coast very close to the centre of Cape Town. Formerly a private house, this beautiful boutique hotel really is hidden away behind a huge wooden front door, and is ideal for a romantic weekend getaway if you find yourself in Capetown. Luxury, comfort and warmth describe the ambience, whilst the views from reception are spectacular. It is like entering another world coming here a real getaway from it all. Your suite is enormous with a large bathroom a kitchenette and a private terrace. The furnishings are dark wood and African artifacts. With three pools, a very elegant restaurant where the food is superb, and the feeling you are on a mountain overlooking the sea, Les Cascades feels so isolated and yet it is so close to Cape Town. Casas Brancas Buzios Brazil

About three hours north of Rio by car you will find the Casas Brancas on the tip of a long peninsula.
Buzios may no longer be the sleepy village made famous by Brigette Bardot but it still has the 25 postcard beautiful dune lined beaches that gave it the reputation it has to this day. Casas Brancas is a luxury boutique hotel perfect for a romantic getaway. It has only thirty two rooms and suites on terraces set into the hill and it just exudes class and old world charm. What sets Casas Brancas apart is the way the hotel is run. It is set up with  the top class services of a luxury hotel with home comfort, and it certainly works because of the terrific staff. You could almost feel you are in the Meditteranean, with the beach and the town literally on your doorstep. The food in the local town is quite superb, almost matching the hotel's restaurant, and the sunsets are a thing of magic. The eighth of our best vacation spots takes us more than half way round the world to the very Southern Caribbean far below the hurricane belt and most of the tourists.

The Tiny Islands of Los Roques
Los Roques lies to the north of Caracas in Venezuela, and they are the most southerly islands in the Caribbean, and it is quite a journey to get here which explains why this most wonderfully beautiful place remains so unspoilt by tourism.
If you want isolation and a touch of exclusivity, and anonymity then these tiny islands are the place to go. From the moment you fly in on a small plane and see the perfect turquoise sea and the tiny islands rimmed with white sand you will see how extraordinary this place is.
In fairness the accommodation remains fairly rustic, no five star high rise here, just converted Pousadas, but you can be off the plane and checked in within five minutes it is that personal. There is very little to do here except enjoy the sun, and sail, dive, or fish. There are no cars, just a simple life. Go hire a boat and visit some of the most beautiful small island beaches anywhere in the world where the chances are you will be alone. Los Roques is a National Marine Park, and is just so undeveloped. It doesn't really feel like the Caribbean more Portugese or French, but if you love escapism then Los Roques could become one of your best vacation spots.Read more about Los Roques CLICK HERE

 
 The nineth of our best vacation spots takes us to the West Pacific to New Caledonia

New Caledonia

Beauty would be a pretty good reason to visit this extraordinarily beautiful place. New Caledonia sits in the West Pacific in the Coral Sea to the east of Australia, and is a French Dependency. The main island is Grande Terre, and Noumea the capital has been likened to Paris in the sun, but what you need to do is to go off to the islands where you will find the finest beaches. Go to the Isle of Pines, the Loyalty Group of Islands and the small uninhabited dependency of Walpole Island. The d’Entrecasteaux Reefs which consists of two separate stunning lagoons centred around the very small islands of Huon and Surprise.
The real joy is the Isle of Pines and you just must visit the Kuto Kanumera area because this could be the most beautiful place on earth with white sand beaches that blind you and a turquoise blue sea no photograph can do justice to. paradise however comes at a price, because much of what you eat has to be imported it is expensive. having said that for the sheer beauty new Caledonia has to be on the list of best vacation spots.Find out more about New Caledonia CLICK HERE

Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle

Situated at the famed Golden Triangle in Thailand, far from the distractions of children or television which are both absent. This is an incredible romantic honeymoon destination, just because of where it is, right on the border with two other countries. The journey here is part of the romance, from your greeting at Chiang Rai airport where incidentally you will be treated like arriving royalty.
Driven in a luxury land rover over dirt roads for over an hour, you arrive on the river bank where your bags vanish to reappear in your tent. You then board a traditional Thai river boat onto the river through the jungle to the Four Seasons Tented Camp.
Tents hardly do justice to the accommodation because they are suspended over the jungle like a treehouse on stilts.  Huge splendid beds, beautiful decor, very romantic describes the fifteen 'tents' with no canvas in sight. In the bathroom there is a huge bath built for two of hammered copper, an outdoor shower and a room sized verandah.

You will be magnificently looked after by the staff who go with you on all your trips, unobtrusive but very attentive. the Camp is all inclusive and the food quality is out of this world. There are lots of tours to do, but one not to be missed is the elephant training, and the boat journey on the mekong River to sit in Thailand, Burma, and Laos all at the same time.
