We arrived at the Jebel Ali Hotel and Resort in Dubai off a flight from Hong Kong at around 1pm and didn't realise that check in would not be until 2pm, which wasn't a good start with children who were tired and just wanted to get on with it.
When we got into our rooms at The Jebel Ali we were a little disappointed after the luxury of Hong Kong, as the rear facing rooms were quite ordinary with a tiny almost non existent balcony.
Exploration of the pool area revealed towels everywhere on sun beds with lots of people milling around and it looked potentially the kind of vacation I hate where you have to get up at 3am to secure your spot!!
We didn't enjoy our buffet supper which we had to take at The Palm Court end of the hotel, but again we had been totally spoilt in Hong Kong, and we were tired so first impressions were not great.
Breakfast was reasonable with an egg chef which I always like, a good toaster, essential, but was somewhat ruined by the sight of towels on every sunbed around the pool.
Making a quick beeline to the pool I was very pleased to see that all the towels were in fact rolled up and had been placed there by the very efficient pool staff awaiting users, so there was no pressure on sun beds.
In any case as our children are now competent swimmers we were able to sit under the palm trees in the lovely grounds all day, and although it was hot it was comfortable.
Lunches al fresco by the beach were good, the odd barbecue in the evening was fantastic, and we all played tennis and ate in the pub style bar by the golf course which looked magnificent.
A small but welcome touch was English newspapers obviously emailed as an attachment so you could if you wanted read about home events as you do at home, and not two days later - the wonders of modern science!!
All in all after a poor start we enjoyed the Jebel Ali Hotel, and Golf Resort we are planning to return later in the year
