Hotel in Playa de las Americas Tenerife

This article
about Las Madrigueras Golf Hotel is the opinion of the author Ian Smith who
was a guest in October 2010.
Where is Las Madrigueras Golf Hotel and Spa
It's in the south end of the island of Tenerife in the area of Las Americas, about 20 minutes from the
airport.
What is Las Madrigueras Like
In some ways a difficult question to answer. Our family of four booked a golf package for 6 nights with a round
of golf every day. We didn't spend that much time in Las Madrigueras itself as we played golf and lunched at the
Las Americas course every day, then swam in a nearly deserted pool[it was October]. We then went out for
supper as we couldn't afford the very high prices in the restaurant.
Having said that our rooms were on the ground floor very close to the gate to the golf course, and our golf
buggies were delivered almost right outside our door, which was fantastic.
The hotel was quiet, and gave the impression of being well run, with a large majority of German's as guests.
There's not a lot more to say other than when you wanted a taxi it came immediately, and as a family we
felt very comfortable.

Food at las Madrigueras
To be honest the only meal we ate was breakfast, which was well served, we didn't have to wait, but for those
who eat a Continental type of breakfast with cold meats the selection looked a bit thin. Our British style fried
breakfast was freshly cooked and good.
Activities at Las Madrigueras
The main acitivity is undoubtedly golf, and the deals especially in October are very attractive. The course is
busy, but we were never really held up on the course which we enjoyed very much.
It is fantastic to have your buggy delivered to the door, and the course is pretty good for high handicappers.
Pitch marks and divots left unattended are annoying, and certain European cousins need to learn some manners on the
course.
Eating out in one of the many restaurants in Las Americas is almost obligatory. We had some decent meals, but
the place is very much bottom end of the market.
Conclusions
We had a good time at Las Madrigueras, but as a destination we found the island of Tenerife to be a concrete
jungle. It seems to cater for the lower end of the mass market although we did find a couple of great restaurants
to eat in down overlooking the sea.
You go to Las Madrigueras for the golf, and that is perfectly OK. The hotel looks and feels five star, and the
rooms were good enough, but hotel food and drink costs are far too expensive.
