Where is the Bangaram Resort?

It is in the Arabian Sea, and is one of the Lakshadweep Island Group. On a map you will find it to the west of Kerala, which is on the southwest coast of India, and its about 200 miles out.

How do you get to Bangaram?

You would fly into Cochin which has international connections, and from there you would fly to Agatti on the Lakshadweep Islands.
A bit of advice here, do not choose Indian Airlines for this flight. It is strongly recommended that you  fly Kingfisher.

After that it's a boat ride to Bangaram Island Resort which takes about an hour and a half.

Be warned the boat trip is a somewhat hair raising experience, because you first have to climb onto a raft, and then your are towed out to the boat. If you didn't realise it before, you  will now that you are experiencing a real escape from the 21st century to a destination that not many people find, or come to.

Bangaram Resort Information

If your idea of a perfect honeymoon is an uninhabited tropical island with lush vegetation, surrounded by soft white sand beaches and a turquoise sea contrasting sharply with the blue sky and the green island, then Bangaram will be your island paradise. As a bonus the island is surrounded by a huge lagoon, and within easy reach are another three islands.If you are feeling energetic you can sail, windsurf or kayak to these beautiful islands, but quite frankly why leave paradise.

For those people who have been to the Maldives, but feel they are now over commercialised the best way to describe Bagaram is probably to compare it to a Maldivian island before they became popular and full of five star resorts.
There are however the same coral reefs, but masses more fish, and the array of colours you will never forget 

Is Bangaram Right For You?

That very much depends on the type of person you are because Bagaram is definitely not for people who need five star resorts will everything that means.

On the other hand if you are a Robinson Cruso at heart and the thought of being a castaway on a romantic tropical island, almost alone with the person you love, then Bagaram is perfect. Just be aware it is somewhat basic, and would probably be the perfect place to come in conjunction with a few days in Kerala.

Accommodation at Bangaram Island Resort Lakshadweep

When the word huts is used to describe the accommodation then this can be taken to mean simple and basic which is pretty accurate. There are 30 huts on Bangaram, some of which are family units in double cottages.
The huts are beachfront, tiled, with a palm fringed veranda, a ceiling fan, and a fridge. There is no hot water but you are at least ensuite!! The words simple, and also comfortable are a good description!!

Conspicuous by their absence are televisions, air conditioning, and telephones. In fact there aren't any newspapers either so you are cocooned in a world removed from civilisation.

Food at the Bangaram Resort

The food is very much at the centre of everything that's good at the Bangaram Resort, and in all fairness the food just isn't good its pretty damn good!!

The hut that houses the restaurant is pretty well at the centre of the resort, and is an interesting design, based around a central pole, and it is a mixture of bamboo and palm leaves.

What you will get is very much from the sea as you might expect with an Indian slant on Continental themes, although breakfasts are pretty traditional with cereals, fresh fruit, eggs, and some dishes with an Indian origin

 The food at the resort for lunch and dinner is a bit Indian, and a bit Continental, and very much seafood based. The food is without exception outstanding
For Breakfast you can have the uusal cereals, eggs in a variety of ways, with lots of fresh fruit, and being India as you might expect some Indian dishes.
The barbecue evenings on the beach are always outstanding not only for the food but also the romantic moon, which seems absolutely huge sitting over the lagoon.

Availability of alcohol is always a question that needs answered, and guests are in luck because Bangaram Island resort is the only place where alcohol is permitted in the Lakshadweep Islands. Naturally most of the evening activity takes place in and around the Beach Bar. The even better news is that it doesn't close until the last guest has left.

Ambience on Bangaram island.

Bangaram island is undoubtedly a place for romantics. When you are on Bangaram you will live in your own little bubble, and if you can overcome the lack of 21st century resort facilities and communications, and you are in love it is paradise.  On thing you will notice is the almost total silence, even the human voices in conversation seems muted, almost as if overawed

What is there to do on Bangaram Lakshadweep

Everything apart from massages has to do with the sea. You can do nothing a little or a little more. Choose from lagoon activities like  swimming, sailing, or it might be rowing, or kayaking. The lagoon is a great place to go windsurfing in safety. Finally if you want to dive or snorkel, the diving is spectacular, with unspoilt coral, and incredibly clear water. 

To be fair you can do nothing except play board games, or read. The Resort has a centre where there are masses of hammocks and sun beds to lie about on, and just idle the day away.

Conclusion

Bangaram island ii a real island hideaway, a place to dream that you are a castaway. The only small drawback is the lack of 21st century electronics, but quite honestly the kind of person who seeks out the Lakshadweep Islands are those who want  a romantic honeymoon package off the beaten track,  and perfect for families who just want a simple castaway tropical island vacation.
